It began with a simple phone call. Shortly before the New Year, Michael Leen rang my mobile. I was at my desk, at work, and he had a proposition. A challenge. He’d seen I was in the process of acquiring an LLC for Captains Practice and thought the word “Ironman” would be a nifty add to the founder’s bio.

I’d been toying with the idea of trying a triathlon, so his wasn’t an entirely hard sell. Plus, I was staring 40 in the face and had been scouring my brain for ways to beat back Father Time. Perhaps a friend had just phoned with an answer.
